About the course

This extensive training covers a broad spectrum of first aid techniques necessary for handling workplace emergencies. The course adheres to HSE standards and teaches participants how to manage injuries and health crises until professional help arrives.

Course content

Role of the First Aider: Understand the critical responsibilities, including assessing incidents and acting effectively within the scope of training. Communication and Casualty Care: Develop essential communication skills for managing the scene, interacting with casualties, and coordinating with emergency responders.

Respiratory Issues: Learn to manage asthma attacks and hyperventilation, including the use of inhalers and calming techniques. Circulatory and Cardiac Problems: Master the identification and first aid management of severe bleeding, chest pains, and heart attacks. Learn the critical skills for CPR and AED usage for adult cardiac emergencies. Diabetes Management: Gain insights into recognizing and assisting with emergencies related to high and low blood sugar levels.

Wound Care and Bleeding Control: Techniques for controlling both minor and severe bleeding, including pressure application and appropriate bandaging. Musculoskeletal Injuries: Techniques for recognizing and managing bone, muscle, and joint injuries, including splinting and immobilization. Head and Spinal Injuries: Learn to assess various types of head injuries and the importance of immobilizing a casualty with suspected spinal injuries to minimize further harm.

Heat and Cold Exposure: Treat conditions caused by extreme temperatures, such as heatstroke and hypothermia. Burns and Scalds Treatment: Assess and treat different types of burns and scalds, focusing on cooling burns and proper covering techniques.

Allergic Reactions and Anaphylaxis: Identification and treatment of allergic reactions, including the administration of epinephrine. Poisoning and Toxic Substances: Steps to manage poisoning cases, including how to identify the poison and emergency response actions. Seizure Management: Understanding different types of seizures and how to manage a seizure episode safely. Stroke Recognition and Response: Use the FAST acronym to identify stroke signs and learn immediate actions to assist the casualty.

Fainting and Shock: Recognize signs and provide first aid for someone who has fainted or is experiencing shock. Unresponsive Casualty Management: Techniques for assessing and managing unresponsive casualties, including ensuring an open airway and monitoring vital signs.
