About the course

This extensive training covers a broad spectrum of first aid techniques necessary for handling workplace emergencies. The course adheres to HSE standards and teaches participants how to manage injuries and health crises until professional help arrives.

Course content

The Role of the First Aider

The first aider provides immediate care to those who are injured or ill, aiming to prevent the situation from worsening and ensuring safety until professional help arrives.

Allergic reaction & anaphylaxis

Recognizing and managing severe allergic reactions, including the use of adrenaline auto-injectors when needed.

Asthma

Helping someone experiencing an asthma attack by using their inhaler and keeping them calm.

Bleeding minor & severe

Managing bleeding involves applying direct pressure to the wound, using sterile dressings to control blood loss, and keeping the injured person calm and still.

Bone, muscle and joint injuries

Supporting and immobilizing injured limbs to prevent further damage until medical help is available.

Burns and scalds

Cooling burns and scalds with running water to reduce pain and prevent further tissue damage.

Chest pains

Assisting someone with chest pain by keeping them comfortable and calling for emergency help, especially if a heart attack is suspected.

Choking - Adult

Learn techniques to assist choking adults, including back blows and abdominal thrusts, while ensuring emergency help is called if needed.

Heat & Cold Extremes

Recognizing and treating heat exhaustion, heatstroke, or hypothermia in extreme temperature conditions.

Fainting

Helping someone who has fainted by laying them flat and elevating their legs to improve blood flow.

Head injuries

Monitoring and providing care for a person with a head injury, ensuring they receive medical attention if needed.

Diabetes

Recognizing signs of a diabetic emergency and providing sugar or other appropriate treatment to help manage low blood sugar.

Poisoning

Helping someone who has been poisoned by identifying the substance and seeking immediate medical attention.

Resuscitation (CPR) - Adult with AED

Performing CPR and using an AED to help restore normal heart function in adults experiencing cardiac arrest.

Seizures

During a seizure, keep the environment safe for the casualty by moving dangerous objects away, cushioning their head, and monitoring breathing until the seizure ends.

Shock

Recognizing and treating the signs of shock in a casualty.

Spinal injuries

Keeping the person as still as possible to prevent further damage to the spine until emergency services arrive.

Stroke

Identifying the signs of a stroke and calling for emergency help immediately to ensure quick treatment.

Unresponsive casualty

Steps to help an unresponsive person, including the recovery position.

Minor Injuries

Providing basic first aid for minor injuries like cuts, bruises, and sprains to prevent complications.

Sepsis

Recognizing the signs of sepsis, such as confusion and rapid breathing, and seeking urgent medical attention.
