Career Confidence

How Emma found her feet and self-belief while studying with Care College

Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts

Leadership and Management for Adult Care (Level 5)

After moving into the care sector following a number of years in education, Emma wanted to ensure she was competent and professional in her new role and it was this desire that led her to Care College. She is studying for a Diploma in Management & Leadership in Adult Social Care (Level 5 RQF) and already has her sights on future learning.

When we spoke with Emma about her experience she told us,

“I began to look for appropriate training options online and discovered the range of courses available through Care College.

I was looking for knowledgeable and proficient practitioners to share their expertise and experience with me during my learning journey.  I also wanted flexibility and the option of studying at my own pace.

I made contact and felt confident that I would be supported in my learning as Megan was so approachable. I was also impressed with the range of courses available which I could see us using for our other staff training needs.”

I felt a slight sense of trepidation initially and worried that the other learners on the course would be more experienced than me and that I might struggle with the content. During the first few units, Megan was on hand to reassure me and the links between my learning and my practice became clearer and stronger. I definitely feel that I have grown in confidence and competence since starting and am already planning further learning once I’ve completed this course.

Megan provided me with her support when I was unsure and encouragement when I suggested ideas. I didn’t feel rushed during our one-to-ones and was able to engage in professional discussions which were invaluable in developing my proposals for both my written work but also my practice.

Embarking on this course of study has shown my board that I am committed and actively engaged in the development of our service.”

From hair to care

How Luke changed careers with the help of Care College.

Luke Stone

Luke Stone

Diploma in Care (Level 3)

After almost 10 years working as a hairdresser, it was time for Luke to put down his scissors and make a career change. He wanted a role where he could help people to feel like the best version of themselves and a career in care came calling.

His first role was with the social care provider, and one of Jersey’s largest charities, Les Amis. While working for them as a Support Worker, Luke studied and successfully completed his Health and Social Care Diploma (QCF Level 2).

In 2016, Luke moved to Scotland where he continued to work in the sector as a Home Carer and Support Worker before returning to Jersey three years later.

Since being back, Luke has been in the role of Senior Support Worker at Les Amis and is working towards his Level 3 Diploma in Care.

He’s due to complete his studies very shortly and has already enrolled on our Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Workplace. With this qualification under his belt, Luke will be able to support and mentor his colleagues as they study and advance their careers.

When we asked Luke about his learning experience with Care College he said,

“Studying with Care College has been a great experience. I’ve been getting invaluable feedback on each of the units, and I especially enjoy the classroom sessions. It’s great to work in a group and discuss other people’s experiences and opinions.

Care College has helped me progress my skills and opened doors to different career options for me.”

Support at all levels

How Ann is using Care College to support her own development and that of her team

Ann Farrow

Ann Farrow

Leadership and Management for Adult Care (Level 5)

Ann has experienced impressive progression in her care career. Starting as a Care Assistant she is now the manager of a Learning Disability and Mental Health Service.

Her strengths in troubleshooting and problem-solving, together with her passion for creating person-centred support plans, make Ann a natural leader in a care setting.

To develop her skills further, Ann completed a Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care (RQF Level 5) with us.  She chose Care College after hearing positive things about us and hitting it off with our Education Lead, Megan.

Talking about her experience, Ann told us,

“Megan is there when I need her to be. She confirms my understanding and learning with her has enabled me to achieve another promotion.

Care College provides an alternative approach to delivering training that uses real events and case studies which help with reflection and comprehension.

I have experienced only positive interactions and have arranged for my team to complete a variety of diplomas with Care College later this year. I honestly cannot see any reason why we would use any other company for our training needs.”
